Over 36,000 vehicles sold in PH in August

There were 36,174 vehicles added to Philippine streets in August, lower than the sales reported in July and in the same month last year, data released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) on Tuesday showed.

The August sales figures reflect a 5.5% decline from the 38,295 units sold in July and a 7.6% drop from the 39,156 units sold in August 2024.

“Despite a modest dip in month-on-month figures, the industry remains optimistic, driven by evolving consumer preferences and a growing shift toward sustainable mobility,” CAMPI said in an accompanying statement.

Commercial vehicles accounted for 79.02% or 28,583 units, while the remaining 7,591 units or 20.98% were passenger cars.

A total of 2,244 electric vehicles were sold during the month — 1,295 hybrid, 661 battery, and 288 plug-in hybrid.

Sales of Asian utility vehicles stood at 20,852 units; Asian utility vehicles at 6,840 units; light-duty trucks and buses at 555; medium-duty trucks and buses at 279; and heavy-duty trucks and buses at 87.

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. remained the lead market player with a 47.93% market share, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. with 18.96%, Nissan Philippines Inc. with 4.96%, Ford Group Philippines with 4.89%, and Suzuki Philippines Inc. with 4.75%.

Year-to-date sales were recorded at 305,381 units, equivalent to a 0.2% increase from 304,765 units the same month last year. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
