PSEi nearly breaches 5,000 points

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) on Thursday set a new intraday all-time high and nearly broke through the 5,000-point ceiling, the country’s bourse said in a statement. Intra-day, the PSEi hit 4,997.04 points and bested the Feb. 20 record of 4,996.94 points.   “The PSEi almost broke the 5000-point level in the afternoon session before a late pullback took place,” PSE President and Chief Executive Officer Hans B. Sicat said.   “Hopefully, given our strong fundamentals and the continued positive investment environment, we would be able to break this territory sooner than later,” Sicat also said.   The PSEi settled at 4,893.48 at the close, down 40.81 points from Wednesday. — ELR, GMA News
