President Benigno Aquino III on Monday boasted about the performance of the Philippine economy during his term.

"Ang dating ‘Sick Man of Asia’ ngayo'y punung-puno na ng sigla," Aquino said during his third State of the Nation Address.

He said that the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 6.4 percent in the first quarter of 2012.

"Milya-milya ang layo niyan sa mga prediksyon at pinakamataas sa buong Southeast Asian region... pangalawa sa Asya, sunod lang sa Tsina," he said.

He likewise boasted about the performance of the Philippines on the Philippine Stock Exchange index.

"Ngayon sa dami ng all-time high pati economic managers nahirapan yata sa pagbilang, naka-44 na pala tayo at bihira na bumaba sa 5,000 ang index," he said.

Citing stories by international media outfits, Aquino also said that investors have taken an interest in the country unlike before.

"Dati po ay namamalimos tayo ng investment ngayon sila ay dumadagsa," he said. –KG, GMA News
