The Bureau of Customs on Monday said it confiscated 571 card-skimming devices at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The devices are used for stealing debit and credit card information.

Edgar Macabeo, Customs district collector at NAIA, issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention on the card-skimming devices that were discovered while inspecting a checked-in baggage from a direct flight from Hong Kong.

Customs said the baggage had three pouches separately containing 199 devices for one-time password (OTP) with 38 SIM cards, 173 OTP devices with 22 SIM cards and 199 OTP devices with 42 SIM cards.

Customs police have arrested the baggage owner, a Hong Kong national, who will be charged for violating the Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998 in relation to certain provisions of the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines. – Keith Richard Mariano/VS, GMA News
