11 Filipinos listed in Forbes' billionaires club

Eleven Filipinos made it to Forbes magazine's annual billionaires list, which is dominated by United States-based entrepreneurs.

Henry Sy, 91 years old, is the richest as he makes it to number 71 with $12.9 billion dollars. His source of income is listed as the SM Investments Corporation.

In last year's Real Time list,  Sy was also the wealthiest Fillipino recorded—he ranked 73rd with a net worth of $14.1 billion.

John Gokongwei, 88, is the second wealthiest Filipino. He is Number 270 with $5 billion from a "diversified" source. Last year, Gokongwei was 244th and worth $5.9 billion.

Lucio Tan, 81, is 380th with $4 billion while banker George Ty, 83, is 421st with $3.7 billion. In 2015, Tan was 369th with a net worth of $4.4 billion, while Ty was 370th with $4.4 billion.

The Forbes magazine's list is the 30th annual guide singling out the world's wealthiest individuals from at least 67 countries.

The rest of the Filipino billionaires are: 94-year-old construction magnate David Consunji, 63-year-old Andrew Tan, and 63-year-old Tony Tan Caktiong with $3 billion, Lucio and Susan Co with $1.6 billion, Robert Coyiuto with $1.6 billion, and former senator Manny Villar with $1.3 billion.

The youngest Filipino billionaire in the list is Enrique Razon Jr., 55, whose source of income is listed as ports with $2.4 billion.

Forbes found that there are 1,810 billionaires in the world or 16 fewer than last year. The US leads with 540 billionaires, followed by China with 251, and 120 in Germany.

Microsoft's Bill Gates topped the list with $75 billion followed by Amancio Ortega with $67 billion and business investor Warren Buffet with $60.8 billion.

The rest of the top ten billionaires are: Mexico's Carlos Slim Helu ($50 billion), Amazon.com's Jeff Bezos ($45.2 billion), Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg ($44.6 billion), Larry Ellison of Oracle($43.6 billion), media mogul Michael Bloomberg ($40 billion), David Koch and Charles Koch, both with $39.6 billion each.

Also on the list are China's Jack Ma, Alibaba owner, at 33rd with $20.5 billion, Republican presidential candidate aspirant and TV and real estate mogul Donald Trump, American TV host Oprah Winfrey, 69-year-old movie producer and director Steven Spielberg, and Star Wars creator George Lucas. — BAP/KG, GMA News
