Jack Ma: Aside from IQ, one also needs EQ, LQ
Chinese business magnate Jack Ma on Wednesday said that intelligence does not guarantee one's success as he or she also needed "emotional and love quotient."
"If you want to be successful, you should have great EQ (emotional quotient), because EQ knows how to work with people. No matter how smart you are, but you never know how to work with people, you'll never succeed, it's just your dream," Ma said at a forum at the De La Salle University in Manila.
"And then IQ... will not make you stupid mistakes, will make you live longer and the other thing if you want to be respected, you should have LQ (love quotient), the Q of love is also very important," he added.
Ma said that most students pay "extreme attention" to intelligence quotient (IQ).
"But they don't pay attention to the EQ, if you don't have the LQ you go nowhere," he said.
Ma is the founder and executive chairman of Alibaba Group, China's biggest e-commerce company. The 53-year-old Ma has an estimated net worth of $38.3 billion net worth according to Forbes magazine.
Meanwhile, he also reminded students that they have to know how much they are willing to sacrifice on order to achieve their dream.
"One thing when you have a dream, the dream is great, the thing behind the dream is tough. So when you dream, you have to ask yourself, what you want to sacrifice," Ma said.
"When you have a dream, you have to think of the bad side of the dream very clearly. Now everybody ask yourself, what do you have? what do you want ?and very important what will you give up? If you don't think about what you'll give up, you will not have what you have," he added. —NB, GMA News
