Ipon challenges and investment options you can try this 2022

New year, new start!

As 2022 kicks off, why not make a game plan to save money? The past year might have been rough, but you can end this year with a load of cash.

"Unang Hirit" just shared some simple "ipon challenges." For example, did you know that just by saving P20 a day, you can have P7,300 by the end of the year?

If you do P50 a day, you'd get P18,250 after 356 days; P100 a day would yield P36,500; and P500 a day would save you P182,500.

Sounds boring? There's another unique ipon challenge that has been tried and tested by some Pinoys.

Jerica Buenafe and Jinky Simbe introduced the "Calendar Ipon Challenge," which they came up with themselves. They said that from May 29 to Dec. 19, 2021, they were able to save up P41,000.

How'd they do it? Aparently, they stuck a plastic bag of money to each date on the calendar!

Financial planner Jennie Rose Julaton said that this worked because the visual reminder is helpful, and the fact that it's fun is a good motivator.

"It's a great way para ma-motivate ka mag-ipon," she said in an interview.

However, she added that it would better to put the money into investments.

She introduced the "50-30-20 Rule," a budgeting method that can help you become financially stable.

According to Julaton, 50 percent of your paycheck should go to essential needs, 20 percent into savings or investments, and 30 into your "happy fund."

Another option is to get into an auto-invest program. It's perfect for those who really want to save, but simply couldn't succeed.

"Sobrang effective siya kasi number one, it's a forced saving... consistent siya, dire-diretso siya, wala kang choice. So nag-bubuild 'yung pera mo. And then of course, nagiging habit na siya," she said.

"Alam mong babawasa ka, ma-po-program na siya sa mind mo," she added.

She also said that you should keep in mind what you're saving for to make it more effective — be it for a business or travel or a new car.
