Man loses P25,000 in savings to termites

A man lost P25,000 in savings to termites after he stored 500-peso bills that he was able to collect in a year in a wooden tip box, which he kept inside a locker.

According to Mav Gonzales’ Tuesday report on “24 Oras,” Cirilo Bitang uploaded a video showing what was left of his savings after termites damaged the paper bills.

He said the money was in good condition upon checking on the last week of November.

However, the pile was already damaged by December 19, as the room’s divider was also infested with termites.

Of the total savings, Bitang was left with only one P500 polymer bill.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said mutilated banknotes can be replaced depending on the extent of the damage. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BAP, GMA Integrated News
