BSP launches festivals commemorative coin series
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has launched the first of a series of 100-peso Philippine Festival Commemorative coins, but stock ran out quickly.
The first featured festival is Cebu's popular "Sinulog" coin that shows a female dancer holding an image of the Sto. Niño.
The design also includes the Sto. Niño Sinulog icon surrounded with patterns and crowns and a diamond design that symbolizes the month that the festival is celebrated, January.
The “Philippines Festival” Commemorative Coin Series consist of 12 silver coins, each features popular cultural and tourism festivals of the country.
"One coin will be issued every month of 2026, in conjunction with the celebration of the feature festival," the BSP said.
Each coin is available at the BSP Store for ?5,000.00
Since the announcement, however, it seemed that collectors and hobbyists were quick to purchase the rare coins.
As of the latest social media post, the BSP announced that the stocks were sold out.
"The Sinulog Festival Commemorative Coin is temporarily out of stock. We will provide an update as soon as they are available for purchase again. Stay tuned!," the BSP said. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
