Former Cebu Rep. Benhur Salimbangon dies at 75

Former Cebu Fourth District Representative Benhur Salimbangon succumbed to cancer at age 75 on Thursday, his family announced.

In a Facebook post, Salimbangon’s son, Francis, said the former congressman “passed peacefully with his family by his side” after a long bout with cancer.

“Benhur was a loving brother, doting husband, guiding father, and caring Lolo. He was the father of the 4th district, the visionary of the North, and a true champion of public service - the epitome of commitment, integrity, and character,” he said.

“In behalf of the Salimbangon family, we are expressing our heartfelt gratitude for all your prayers, support and love for our Benhur. We ask that you respect the privacy of our family during this difficult time,” he added.

Last year, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia hired Salimbangon as her consultant. -MDM, GMA News
