One dead, two injured as dump truck slams into LRT-2 post in Marikina

A truck driver's helper died while two others were injured after a dump truck slammed into a concrete post of the Light Rail Transit-2 on the wee hours of Friday on Marcos Highway, Marikina City, a report on Unang Balita said.

The driver suffered injuries after the truck rammed a post at the construction site of the LRT-2 extension, Super Radyo dzBB's Manny Vargas reported.

A security guard in the area was also hurt and is now in critical condition.

Authorities sought the project engineer of the LRT-2 extension to consult him on how they can dismantle the scaffolding which was also hit by the dump truck.

The chief operations officer of Marikina Rescue was said to be enraged after finding out that the project engineer has not yet been contacted before 7 a.m. They then decided to proceed with the dismantling.

Only one lane was open on the westbound side of Marcos Highway going to Cubao while the dismantling was going on, resulting in heavy traffic, according to a report by GMA News' Marisol Abdurahman on "24 Oras."

The report said it was already past 12 noon when the truck was removed from the scene and the two affected lanes were opened to traffic. —Marlly Rome C. Bondoc/KG/KBK, GMA News
