Ateneo releases statement on viral fight video among junior high students

Ateneo de Manila University has released a statement today in response to the fighting video that has gone viral on social media.

According to the Ateneo Junior High School Principal, Jose Antonio P. Salvador, the school is already dealing with the matter seriously and has conducted an investigation regarding the report.

In the released statement, he said, "The video, taken at face value, depicts an evident act of violence that constitutes a serious violation of disciplinary misconduct."

In the video, an Ateneo Junior High school student appeared to verbally taunt another student inside the bathroom as another one took the video. After making the student choose whether to kiss his shoes and his private part or be beaten, the student proceeded to beat the other.

"We express our concern also about the risks associated with sharing the video, online, and in social media groups.

"Not only has the privacy rights of these minors been breached but it has also provoked some reactions that do little to help the school in dealing appropriately with the incident," Salvador appealed to the public.

The statement further presses everyone to help put a stop to the video from further spreading. — LA, GMA News
