Arson possible cause of Star City fire —BFP

The fire that hit Star City early Wednesday morning may have been caused by arson, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

According to a report by Jonathan Andal on GMA News' Unang Balita, a suspicious social media post stating "Star City will die" was shown to authorities by Lisa Macuja, wife of Fred Elizalde, the amusement park's owner.

Pasay City Fire Marshall Superintendent Paul Pili also said firefighters are wondering why different parts of Star City seemed to have started burning almost at the same time.

Its initial investigation, however, showed that the fire started from the stockroom.

Aside from arson, the BFP is not discounting the possibility of electrical problem as the cause of fire.

As of 6:55 a.m. on Wednesday, the fire has been declared under control and efforts to put it out continue.

Star City will be closed for a year, according to its management.

"We're targeting reopening about October next year. It's necessary because the importation of rides takes time and the set-up of the park also," said Atty. Rudolph Steve Juralbal, vice president for legal affairs of the Elizalde Group of Companies. —Dona Magsino/KG, GMA News
