Netizen warns of scammers posing as Lazada deliverymen

A netizen’s Facebook post has gone viral after he shared screenshots of a conversation with an anonymous individual posing as a courier for online shopping website Lazada.

According to Jaydee Mendoza, he has not placed an order through Lazada in a long time, which was why he was surprised to receive a text from an unsaved number on Wednesday informing him that a package is on the way.

The scammer claimed to be from Lazada and asked for Mendoza’s full name and address.

“Matagal-tagal na kong ‘di umorder sa Lazada kaya laking gulat ko nang may ma-receive akong text na andiyan na raw ‘yung delivery. So ako naman chineck ko agad Lazada app ko to confirm na wala, so wala nga, kaya alam ko na agad na modus ‘to,” he said in his post.

When Mendoza pressed the scammer for details regarding his supposed order, he was not given a definite answer except that he had ordered a vacuum cleaner worth P12,000.

The scammer became irate and aggressive when the netizen refused to give out his personal details.

“Napaka-VIP niyo naman kung ibabalik ko pa ito at babalik ako bukas… Simple lang kasi ma’am/sir lumabas na po kayo at tapos na ang problema.”

Mendoza stopped receiving texts and calls from the poser after he said “maghanapbuhay ka nang tama, hindi ‘yung nanggugulang ka ng tao para kumita. Mali ‘yan at matakot ka sa karma.”

Shortly after his post became viral, Mendoza told GMA News Online that he received another text from the scammer saying, “At pinasa mo pa number ko sa kakilala mo ano po talaga kailangan niyo?”

The concerned netizen said he posted the conversation to warn the public against such scams, especially with the holiday season coming up.

He also hopes that online shopping websites will ensure the privacy of their users’ data.

“Sana ma-warn din nila ‘yung general public to be extra careful and not to give their personal info to anyone, lalo na sa ‘di kilala. And also sana ma-develop pa nila ‘yung kanilang process na mas maging protektado ang privacy ng mga info ng kanilang mga customers,” he said in an online interview.

As of writing, Lazada is yet to respond to GMA News Online’s request for comment. —LDF, GMA News
