Pateros residents required to wear face shields; violators face P2k fine or 12-hour jail time

Residents in the municipality of Pateros are now required to wear face shields aside from face masks, according to a report by Mai Bermudez on 24 Oras Weekend on Saturday.

Those found violating the city ordinance mandating the wearing of face shields face a fine of P2,000 or 12-hour jail time, Pateros Mayor Miguel Ponce III said.

"Huhulihin sila.

Mas malaki ang magiging problema nila," Ponce said.

The city ordinance was passed to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

These past few days, authorities have been more considerate when encountering residents not wearing face shields.

After giving warning, they advise those without face shields to just go home.

However, this week, authorities will strictly enforce the ordinance mandating the use of face shields in public.

Due to the ordinance, the demand for face shields increased in the city.

A vendor said her supplier jacked up the price of face shield from P20 to P40.

Some stores were selling face shields from P30 to P50 each, and eye shields at P170 to P200 each.

Meanwhile, in Quezon City, Task Force Disiplina enforcers went around the markets and roads to remind people to wear face masks and observe social distancing.

Those found not wearing face masks were arrested.
