Five dead in fire in Corinthian Gardens, QC

Five people died in a fire that broke out in a residential area in Corinthian Gardens, Barangay Ugong Norte, Quezon City before dawn on Saturday.

The fatalities are members of the Yu family, whose house burned down, according to a report by Luisito Santos on Dobol B TV.

Four of the fatalities' bodies were burned. One died due to suffocation, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said, according to a report on News TV Live.

Those who died were identified as Gilbert Yu, Ryan Yu, Charito Yu, Abigail Yu and Rita Yu.

Two others were injured, also members of the Yu family.

The fire which reached the second alarm started on the second floor of the Yu house, the BFP said.

According to BFP-QC chief of operations Fire Chief Inspector Joseph Del Mundo, firemen had difficulty entering the house since it was secured by grills and windows were doubly thick.

It was also dark and there was no emergency light.

The fire was put out at 5:25 a.m. after more than three hours.

No other house was affected by the fire.

The BFP said damage may reach P60 million.

Investigation is still ongoing as to the cause of the fire. —KG, GMA News
