Fire hits cargo vessel at Delpan Bridge in Tondo, at least 3 hurt


Fire hit a cargo vessel at the Delpan Bridge in Tondo, Manila on Saturday morning and three people were reported injured.

The cargo vessel was identified as the MV Titan 8.

A gasoline truck beside it on the bridge was also engulfed by fire.

The fire started at 8:51 a.m. and reached the third alarm, according to a report by Carlo Mateo on Dobol B TV.

 

Three people were reported hurt, two of them workers of MV Titan 8 and one from the gasoline truck.

 

 

 

 

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has started using chemical foam to put out the fire.

The MV Titan 8 had LPG tanks on board.

Traffic meanwhile became heavy on the southbound lane of Mel Lopez Boulevard as fire trucks occupied the road.

In a separate report by Carlo Mateo on Super Radyo dzBB, the MV Titan 8 already exploded just before 1 p.m.

The fire then spread at the Pasig River, raising concerns on firefighters near the site.

BFP personnel and trucks from different volunteer groups went back to the site to respond to the incident.

The Manila Fire Department reported that as of 12:43 p.m., the blaze was raised to fifth alarm.

 

After it was initially declared fire out at 2:54 p.m., fire reignited at the MV Titan 8, according to a Super Radyo DZBB report by Jhomer Apresto.

 

 

 

 

The Bureau of Fire Protection said MV Titan 8 was already bound for Coron, Palawan when a portion of the vessel exploded, injuring seven people, including four crew members.

 

 

A 53-year-old businessman identified as Juan Edmund Palanca, a passenger of the vessel, was reportedly missing.

Following the fire and the explosion, some houses in Parola, Binondo were also affected. —Jamil Santos/KG/MDM, GMA News
