Eleazar orders relief of police unit over alleged extortion, dismissal of 2 rogue cops

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Thursday assured the swift dismissal of two rogue cops and ordered the relief of an entire police unit over separate incidents.

In a statement, the PNP said he ordered the summary dismissal proceedings against Manila cop Police Senior Master Sergeant Bernardo Oriol Jr. linked to the killing of a businessman in Binondo.

Oriol is a suspect in the murder of businessman Naiquian Yuan, who was ambushed by motorcycle-riding perpetrators in Malate, Manila on August 2.

He was arrested along with his alleged cohort Shi Shanbang on August 6 in Binondo, the PNP said.

According to Manila Police District investigators, Oriol’s outfit looked similar to the clothes worn by one of the suspects and his motorcycle also matched the description of the one used in the ambush.

Eleazar also directed to initiate the summary dismissal proceedings against Police Staff Sergeant Manuel Bien who was tagged as a supplier of shabu in Mandaluyong City.

The cop, who is assigned at the Police Security Protection Group, was identified as the alleged source of illegal drugs by suspect Alfie Gomez.

According to the PNP, the two were nabbed in a police anti-narcotics operation on August 9.

“Inatasan ko na ang Internal Affairs Service sa pamumuno ni Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo na tutukan at umpisahan sa lalong madaling panahon ang summary dismissal proceedings,” Eleazar said.

(I ordered the Internal Affairs Service led by Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo to focus and start as soon as possible the summary dismissal proceedings.)

Eleazar said the suspects will face administrative and criminal charges.

Meanwhile, he also ordered Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director Major General Albert Ignatius Ferro to replace all the personnel of its Quezon City field unit over allegations of extortion.

Eleazar said the cops allegedly asked P3 million in exchange for the release of an arrested businessman.

“Disarm and put them under restrictive custody while investigation is being conducted,” he said.—LDF, GMA News
