Power outage disrupts LRT Line-2 operations

MANILA, Philippines - A power interruption disrupted operations of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 early Wednesday morning leaving only four stations operational. In an interview on dzBB radio, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) administrator Melquiades Robles said the disruption was caused by the tripping of one of LRT's power substations. Robles said the initial tripping triggered a series of trippings, despite authorities' efforts to manually isolate the source of the tripping. "May safety feature na nagti-trip ang lahat. Nasa process kami ng pag-lift, manual override lahat na substations (There is a safety feature where a power trip in one substation cuts off power to the other stations. We are in the process of manually overriding the substations to isolate the cause of the tripping)," Robles said. Robles said that as of 11 a.m., the LRTA could operate the LRTA's stations in Santolan, Katipunan, Anonas and Cubao stations. He said they hope to resume normal operations before noon. The incident occurred as the LRT is coping with increased ridership, with motorists ditching their private vehicles in favor of public transport. - GMANews.TV
