Fr. Joe Dizon, activist priest and Kontra Daya convenor, dies

Activist priest Fr. Jose Dizon died Monday night at a hospital in Quezon City, his fellow street parliamentarian Renato Reyes, Jr. of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan said late Monday night.

The Bayan secretary general said Dizon died at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI).

"Fr. Joe Dizon passed away at 11:15 p.m. at the NKTI after admission last Tuesday due to complications (from) diabetes," Reyes said.

He said Dizon "dedicated 40 years to the church of the poor" and led the Workers Assistance Center, was a convenor of the elections watchdog group Kontra Daya, and was a prominent figure in the #abolishpork movement. — ELR, GMA News
