La Salle suspended for 1 year, banned from all UAAP events

De La Salle University has been suspended for one year and cannot take part in all sports events of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP), GMA 7's DZBB radio reported. The one-year suspension, meted out by the UAAP board, will take effect in the league's 69th season that will start in July. La Salle had admitted that it unknowingly fielded two ineligible basketball players, Mark Benitez and Tim Garchalian, for three seasons. The university had previously offered to file a one-year leave of absence in the men's basketball tournament. The UAAP board, however, said that if the university wanted to take a break from the league, it must do so in all 14 sports events.-GMANews.TV
