Cynthia Villar’s wealth increases by 76 percent, 15 senators richer in 2015


Of the 15 senators whose wealth grew in 2015, Senator Cynthia Villar posted the biggest jump in net worth at 76.5 percent, based on the Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth the lawmakers submitted.

Villar’s wealth jumped from P1.983 billion in 2014 to P3.5 billion last year.

She remains to be the lone billionaire in the Senate.

Meanwhile, Senator Francis Escudero has displaced Senator Antonio Trillanes IV as the poorest senator, with his wealth decreasing by 3.3 percent from P6.049 million in 2014 to P5.8 million in 2015.

Trillanes’ net worth increased by 7.2 percent from P5.5 million in 2014 to P5.9 million last year. 

Aside from Villar and Trillanes, the following senators posted an increase in their net worth from 2014 to 2015.

  • Lito Lapid (27.6 percent increase from P33.8 million to P43.150 million)
  • Juan Edgardo Angara (17.9 percent increase from P100.3 million to P118.2 million)
  • Miriam Defensor Santiago (17.67 percent increase from P73 million to P85.9 million)
  • Paolo Benigno Aquino IV (17.35 percent increase from P24.5 million to P28.75 million)
  • Franklin Drilon (8.05 percent increase from P73.125 million to P78.675 million)
  • Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (5.2 percent increase from 200.5 million to 211.077 million)
  • Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito (4.2 percent increase from 75.5 million to P78.675 million)
  • Vicente Sotto III (3.9 percent increase from 64.28 million to 66.8 million)
  • Loren Legarda (2.39 percent increase from P39.6 million to P40.545 million)
  • Ralph Recto (1.8 percent increase from P522 million to P531.6 million)
  • Alan Peter Cayetano (1.07 percent increase from P23.314 million to P23.564 million)
  • Juan Ponce Enrile (0.92 percent increase from P121 million to P122.1 million)
  • Jinggoy Estrada (0.156 percent increase from P192.8 million to P193.1 million)

Of the nine senators whose wealth decreased, it was Senator Sergio Osmeña III who posted the biggest drop in net worth year on year, from P107 million to P90.5 million.
