Duterte again declares Manny Pacquiao will be next president

President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday again raised the possibility of Sen. Manny Pacquiao of becoming the next Philippine president.

"I ask permission from president-to-be Manny Pacquiao. Ako nagbitiw na ako ng salita... klaro na iyan," Duterte said after a long speech during the boxing icon's 38th birthday celebration in General Santos City.

Earlier in his speech, Duterte told Pacquiao to "stay humble" and he will surely be elected as the next president.

"Look, ito ha. Man, politiko ka, Man. Magiging presidente ka rin. Tingin ko eh, totoo," he said. "Sundan mo lang linya mo, at ganun lang ang ugali mo.. yang style mo, stay humble, mababa ka lang."

Last Wednesday, Duterte raised Pacquiao's hand in Malacañang and declared "For President na ito ah."

Duterte had admitted being a fan and friend of Pacquiao even before the boxing icon became famous.

Pacquiao, meanwhile, is a staunch supporter of Duterte's push for the revival of the death penalty. He had also praised the President's campaign against drugs. —ALG, GMA News
