Pasay, Muntinlupa police chiefs sacked over sleeping, drinking cops

The chiefs of police of Pasay City and Muntinlupa have been removed from their posts after surprise inspections caught police officers at precincts either sleeping or drinking alcohol while on duty.

National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Oscar Albayalde told GMA News Online that he had relieved Pasay City police chief Senior Superintendent Dionesio Bartolome and Muntinlupa City police chief Senior Superintendent Dante Novicio.

Albayalde also told GMA News Online that San Juan City Police chief Senior Lawrence Coop had also been removed from his post for supposedly falling short of expectations from the national headquarters.

He said removal the said police officials was upon the recommendation of an oversight committee of the NCRPO.

Asked if charges will be filed against the relieved chiefs of police, Albayalde said there was still no recommendation for such action.

“Depende sa magiging  recommendation ng oversight committee. Sa ngayon yung recommendation lang naman is relief, part of it is the decision of oversight committee. Walang recommendation so far ang oversight committee for the filing of case against them,” the Metro Manila Police chief said over the phone.

He said the NCRPO reached the decision after he personally caught some members of the Pasay City Police and Muntinlupa police either drinking inside the precinct or sleeping while on duty.

“Unang-una, ang decision na ‘yan ay dahil sa nangyari plus the performance nila,” Albayalde said.

As regards the San Juan City police chief, Albayalde said the oversight committee found his performance lacking.

“Hindi niya nameet yung standard na sinet ng national headquarters,” he said.

Albayalde said Bartolome would be assigned to the Muntinlupa Police while Novicio would be assigned at the NCRPO headquarters.

He said Senior Superintendent Noel Flores from Region 4A would replace Bartolome to head the Pasay City police while Senior Superintendent Chito Bersaluna from NCRPO would be assigned to lead the San Juan City police.

Bersaluna was the chief of police of Caloocan City who was relieved due to the alleged involvement of his men in the death of Kian delos Santos.

He then became the chief of the NCRPO regional training and education division.—NB, GMA News
