Ex-AFP chief Biazon leads 2018 PMA Homecoming awardees


FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City— From being in the class goat of Philippine Military Academy Class of 1961, former senator, congressman, and Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Rodolfo "Pong" Biazon was among the top awardees for the 2018 PMA Homecoming.

Biazon, who has rendered more than 50 years of "distinguished, outstanding, exemplary and untarnished service" to the country, was bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association, Inc. (PMAAAI).

He served in government from being a PMA cadet to being top of the AFP officer and as lawmaker from April 1, 1957 to April 14, 1991. He became a senator in the Ninth Congress from 1992 to 1995 and elected again in 1998 until 2010.

He also became a House representative for Muntinlupa City from 2010 to 2016.

"The rendering of government service for this length of time is a feat no ordinary individual could perform, and the Lifetime Achievement Award is a recognition for his accomplishments," the PMAAAI said.

Likewise, the PMAAAI awarded to 10 other PMA alumni the coveted Cavalier Award , which is the highest recognition given to an alumnus or alumna who excel in their fields.

The Cavalier Awardees include:

  • Cavalier Domingo Palisoc Jr. (Command and Administration)
  • Cav. Benjamin Madrigal Jr. (Command and Administration)
  • Cav. Robert Arevalo (Staff Functions)
  • Cav. Ronald Anthony Go (Private Enterprise)
  • Cav. Eugenio Boquio (Army Operations)
  • Cav. Jonnel Estomo (Police Operations)
  • Cav. Juario Marayag (Naval Operations)
  • Cav. Hostillo Arturo Cornelio (Coast Guard Operations)
  • Cav. Dennis Guillermo (Special Operations)
  • Cav. Loreto Pasamonte (Air Operations)

The PMA Public Affairs Office acting chief said that 1,983 alumni have attended the annual homecoming to relive their experience as  cadets.

The youngest among the attending alumni is 2nd Lieutenant Anne Leopoldo, a 21-year-old from Class 2017. The oldest, on the other hand, is retired Major General of the AFP, Delfin Castro, 92, of Class 1951. —LBG, GMA News
