Monsoon rains enhanced by Domeng damage bridge, cause floods

Heavy rains from the southwest monsoon (habagat) enhanced by Typhoon Domeng have affected many areas of the country since Saturday, causing damage to a bridge, brownout, flooding, and cancellation of trips, according to a report on News TV Live on Sunday.

In San Fernando, Romblon, a bridge got damaged. The Department of Public Works and Highways promised to repair the bridge as soon as possible.

Power went out in almost the entire Tablas Island in Romblon as rain continuously poured throughout the whole day Saturday and some trees fell and hit power lines. Eventually, power was restored.

Inter-island trips on the Fastcraft and small RORO (roll in roll out) vessels were canceled, particularly those servicing the Odiongan-Roxas-Oriental Mindoro and Odiongan-Batangas routes.

Meanwhile, in Metro Manila, flooding was reported in many areas as rains poured overnight.

At the UST Hospital in Sampaloc, Manila, patients at the Emergency Room had to be evacuated after floodwaters entered the ground floor.

Other areas flooded in Manila were Laong Laan, España, and Quiapo.

In Quezon City, Broadway Street, Mother Ignacia, and Caliraya Streets were likewise flooded. —KG, GMA News
