Ex-Nat’l Security Adviser Roilo Golez laid to rest

Former Parañaque Representative and National Security Adviser Jose Roilo Golez has been laid to rest on Saturday.

According to Super Radyo dzBB, he was buried at the Heritage Park in Taguig City.

Barely a week had passed since Parañaque City Vice Mayor Rico Golez announced that his father, 71, succumbed to a heart attack.

The younger Golez shared his final moments with his father in a heartfelt post, remembering the years he spent serving his country.

"Today the former Navy Officer, Postmaster General, National Security Adviser, Congressman, [Husband], Father, Grandfather Jose Roilo Golez was buried with full military honors and a 21 gun salute," his post on Facebook read.

Golez had served as representative of the second district of Parañaque City for six terms, holding positions like chairman of Committee on National Defense, Committee on Public Order and Security, and head of the House contingent to the Commission on Appointments.

During the Marcos regime, he served as the deputy administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority from 1978 to 1981 and later became the Postmaster general from 1981 to 1986.

He then served as National Security Adviser from 2001 to 2004 under then-President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Golez was also an advocate of the Philippines' rights to the West Philippine Sea, for which Supreme Court (SC) Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio remembered him as a "indefatigable defender."

His wake was attended by several high-ranking government officials, including President Rodrigo Duterte, who personally paid final respects to the public servant who had reached the end of his long journey. — Margaret Claire Layug/MDM, GMA News
