DFA chief Locsin on passport data loss: I want it fixed, not repeated

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Saturday assured the public that the passport data loss that hit the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) would be remedied and won't happen again.

"I just want it fixed and not repeated," Locsin said on Twitter, in reply to a netizen who criticized him for "leaving people speculating on the data breach" at the DFA.

The data loss happened, as Locsin had earlier revealed, when the DFA's previously outsourced passport maker took off with all the applicants' data when its contract with the government was terminated.

"Redundancy of data was promised by previous contractor but not fulfilled or just denied us. We have no knowledge whatsoever if it has been corrected," said Locsin.

"Like a cuckolded husband, we are always the last to know," he added.

The National Privacy Commission (NPC) already said it would be conducting an investigation into the incident. —MDM/KG, GMA News
