PNP, PDEA bare latest death toll from drug war: 5,176 killed as of Jan. 2019


A total of 5,176 drug personalities have been killed in the government’s controversial campaign against illegal drugs from the time President Rodrido Duterte assumed office on July 1, 2016 to January 31, 2019, authorities disclosed on Thursday.

At a press briefing, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said a total of 170,689 drug suspects have also been arrested during a total of 119,841 anti-illegal drugs operations in the last two and a half years.

Of this number, 263 were elected officials, 295 were government employees, and 69 were uniformed personnel.

Meanwhile, the total value of shabu seized from drug suspects went up to P19.14 billion, an increase of 308.27 million from December 31, 2018.

Authorities also said that 301 dismantled dens and clandestine laboratories have been dismantled.

A total of 11,080 barangays, meanwhile, were declared as drug-cleared. — MDM, GMA News
