Duterte says he is not aspiring to go to heaven

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday said he is not aspiring to go to heaven, and that he is going to hell.

In a speech during the opening of the Palarong Pambansa 2019 in Davao City, Duterte said he would be willing to go to hell for killing those that would "destroy" the Philippines.

And the last thing that I will do for my country if I go to hell to burn to eternity, so be it," he said.

Duterte has been criticized for the deaths of thousands of mostly poor Filipinos in police operations that were carried out as part of his anti-drugs campaign.

"Ayaw ko nang ganun. I do not want oppression. I do not want corruption. You will go ahead. But I will follow because I know that I will be going to hell," he added.

According to Duterte, he is also not aspiring to reach heaven, as he said he may not be allowed to enter its gates.

"It’s all right.

— Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
