Bato eyes 'seminars' to learn lawmaking process

Former Bureau of Corrections chief Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, who is poised to become a senator, on Tuesday admitted that he needs training to learn the process of lawmaking.

In a television interview, Dela Rosa said he aims to attend a "seminar" on the process of lawmaking once he assumes his new role in the government.

"Ewan ko kung meron bang seminar diyan, o ano bang training diyan para matutunan ko yung paano gawin 'yung batas. Ano bang trabaho namin diyan sa Senado? Kung merong ganon, I'll take that opportunity na para matuto ako," he told CNN Philippines.

As of Wednesday morning, Dela Rosa was at fifth place in the Senate race based on the partial and unofficial vote count from the Commission on Elections’ transparency server, which seen to guarantee him a seat in the Senate.

Based on candidate’s profile uploaded on GMA News Online, Dela Rosa’s occupation and experience are mostly related to law enforcement. He studied postgraduate degree on Masters in Public Administration and doctoral degree on Development Administration.

A former Philippine National Police chief, Dela Rosa said he will do research on where he could take a short course on lawmaking.

He also said he will seek help from his colleagues, reelectionists Senator Aquilino “Koko" Pimentel III and Senator JV Ejercito, who was outside the Top 12 in the Senate race, to educate him on the duties of a senator.

“Magtawag-tawag ako kina Koko Pimentel, kina JV Ejercito kung ano ba talagang trabaho ng senador. What do I need to prepare?” Dela Rosa said. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
