PIA chief Harold Clavite resigns

Philippine Information agency (PIA) Director General Harold Clavite has resigned, according to a social media message posted on Friday evening.

"It’s official. I’ve separated from the Philippine Information Agency effective today. Many thanks to all who have been part of my journey. I appreciate all the support given by our partners in government, the private sector, and the general public," Clavite said.

"It has been a roller coaster ride the past three years and I look forward to a less stressful private life now. I have contributed a lot and have completed my purpose of giving up my career and life in the United States to serve my home country, the #Philippines. I will be back to my family and take care of my own now," he added.

In June, Clavite was facing investigation by the Presidential Communications Operations Office over allegations of splitting contracts, misusing funds for hotel accommodations, and irregularities in the production of information materials.

Clavite has denied the allegations which he linked to efforts by some people in the agency to discredit him after he initiated a probe on supposed irregularities in the PIA, the government’s development communications arm

"Rest assured," Clavite continued, "I will continue to be an advocate for peace, good governance, and a more responsible citizenry. I will continue to promote and foster a freer world through information and communication by advocating #responsiblesocialmedia and responsible sharing of information. I will continue to support the work in #Marawi." — with Amita Legaspi/BAP, GMA News
