PHL Navy's second missile frigate launched in South Korea

The Philippine Navy's second missile-capable frigate was launched at sea for the first time during a ceremony in Ulsan, South Korea on Friday.

According to the Navy, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Armed Forces chief of staff General Noel Clement and Navy Flag Officer in Command Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad attended the launch of the BRP Antonio Luna (FF151) at the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Shipyard in Bangeojinsunhwan-doro.

The Luna could be delivered by September or October 2020.

The Navy also said that the first ship, BRP Jose Rizal, was launched last May and was undergoing harbor trials. This frigate may be delivered in April or May 2020.

Both ships are capable of engaging in the four dimensions of modern warfare which include: Anti-Air Warfare (AAW), Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and Electronic Warfare (EW).

The Navy emphasized that the acquisition of these missile frigates would strengthen its ability to safeguard the Philippines' maritime territory. — DVM, GMA News
