Robredo slams OWWA exec Mocha for ‘spreading lies’ on aid for Taal Volcano victims

Vice President Leni Robredo has called out Deputy Executive Director Mocha Uson of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration for spreading lies about Robredo's office donation to the victims of the Taal Volcano eruption.

Robredo was referring to a comment from a Facebook user claiming that Robredo and her office only donated one bottled water and five pieces of pandesal to each evacuee, a comment made by a certain Facebook user on a photo by Robredo distributing aid to the evacuees in Batangas on Wednesday afternoon.

This comment was then posted by Uson on her Facebook page which also houses her blog, with Uson saying "Hindi nakapagtataka na galit na ang mga tao sa mga istilong bulok na ganito. Uson's Facebook page has 5.7 million followers.

"While our people are suffering from an unfortunate tragedy, this bearer of fake news (Uson) continues to receive salary out of taxpayers’ money. Parang sobrang insulto sa taumbayan na tayo iyong nagpapasuweldo ng isang taong ginawang trabaho iyong pagpapakalat ng fake news," Robredo said in an interview in Caloocan City where she attended a forum on community-based drug rehabilitation center.

Let’s all help put a stop to the proliferation of lies," Robredo added.

Robredo said that the volunteers who heeded their call to help in packing the goods for the evacuees on Tuesday night can attest to what is really inside the food packs that they gave for aid.

According to the Office of the Vice President, Robredo distributed at least 2,101 food packs and 1,000 face masks during her visit to the evacuees.

Each food pack contained 1.5 kilos of rice, assorted canned goods and two packs of noodles, it added.

Robredo's office is also due to donate hygiene kits, blankets, mats later this week. — RSJ, GMA News
