Koko: I did not ‘tour’ Makati hospital

Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III on Wednesday denied claims that he toured around a hospital in Makati despite the knowledge that he was positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

"Since I was already inside, then I had to leave. Hence, I had to walk out of the hospital. Walking out po iyon, not touring," Pimentel said in a message to reporters.

He explained that he accompanied his pregnant wife Kathryna who got checked in at the hospital at around 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and that the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) called him at 9 p.m. regarding his test results.

"I told the OB even before I told my wife. Then I left her in the hospital. I never went inside the delivery room," Pimentel said.

In a separate message, the senator's wife—who is expected to give birth in the next few days—also set the record straight and said they never entered the hospital's delivery room, contrary to the information circulating online.

"The stress test happened around 8:30 p.m. last night in the examination room. Ako lang po mag-isa diyan. Kasi sabi din nila bawal ang husband or bantay," Kathryna said.

She added that the hospital management can also check the CCTV footage.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health said it has yet to verify and study the chronology of the events regarding Pimentel's case to determine if he violated any protocol on preventing the spread of COVID-19. — RSJ, GMA News
