PNP records nearly 70K violators of enhanced community quarantine

The Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded nearly 70,000 violators of the guidelines of the enhanced community quarantine being implemented by the government, PNP Deputy Chief for Operations Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said Monday.

Data provided by Eleazar, the commander of the Joint Task Force COVID-19 Shield, showed that 69,089 violators were recorded in the entire country. Of that number, 38,940 were from Luzon while 30,149 were from Visayas and Mindanao.

Of the 69,089 violators, a total of 17,039 individuals were arrested; 3,777 were fined while 48,273 have only been warned by authorities.

Aside from Luzon, other provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao already implemented an enhanced community quarantine due to the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier said the enhanced community quarantine period over Luzon would last until April 14.

As of March 29, the Philippines has 1,418 confirmed COVID-19 cases as more tests are being conducted. The fatalities were 71 while recoveries were 42. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
