OVP's fund drive for PPEs reaches P55M on Leni's 55th birthday

The Office of the Vice President's fund drive to buy personal protective equipment for health workers in the campaign against COVID-19 has reached P55 million, Vice President Leni Robredo said on Thursday.

The amount was reached on her 55th birthday.

Robredo, in her Facebook account, said P5.9 million was sourced from the OVP’s budget while the rest of the amount were donated by private individuals.

Lawyer Barry Gutierrez, Robredo’s spokesperson, said that the OVP had already turned over 93,000 PPE sets and 15,000 hot meals for health workers and other front liners.

“Mayroon po tayong 527 na ospital na nabigyan na; [at] mayroon pang halos 100 na naka-line-up for delivery,” Gutierrez said in an interview with Radyo Pilipinas.

Palawan has received 10,000 PPE sets funded by the OVP fund drive.

“Lahat po ito ay mga PPEs na siguradong safe, siguradong sakto iyong mga standards po ng propesyon at ginagamit po talaga sa mga ospital,” Gutierrez added.

In a separate Facebook post, Robredo shared that she got birthday greetings from sewers of local clothing brand Bayo who have also volunteered to sew PPE sets for OVP’s distribution amid the COVID-19 pandemic. -Llanesca Panti/NB, GMA News
