Essential work, religious gatherings allowed under GCQ -Palace

Essential work and religious gatherings will be allowed under general community quarantine (GCQ) provided that social distancing and other safety protocols will be observed, Malacañang said Thursday.

"'Yung pagbabawal po sa mass gatherings ay applicable po pero 'yung mga essential work gatherings and religious activities, pupuwede na pong magpatuloy provided na may social distancing na at least two meters," presidential spokesman Harry Roque said during a press briefing.

"Sa transportasyon, one meter, sa religious and work meetings dapat two meters ang distansya," Roque added.

According to Roque, individuals who will attend essential mass gatherings must wear face masks, face shields and other facial protective equipment during the whole event.

Meanwhile, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said religious leaders should come up with ways on how to ensure social distancing during their activities.

"Nasa atin pong religious leaders na paano ito ipapatupad, ginagawa naman na ito before na," Año said.

Regarding the specific number before it could be considered a mass gathering, Año said: "Wala na tayong dinefine na numero, ang importante dito distansya."

He also reminded those who will work in GCQ areas to always bring their company IDs and certificates of employment.

The national government earlier said areas which will remain under enhanced community quarantine until May 15 include the National Capital Region, Central Luzon except Aurora, CALABARZON, Pangasinan, Benguet, Baguio City, Iloilo province, Iloilo City, Cebu province, Cebu City, Davao City.

On the other hand, other areas will be put under GCQ provided that "minimum health standards are achieved and continuously observed." --KBK, GMA News
