Tondo residents ignore social distancing as cops hand out relief goods for NCRPO chief's b-day

Residents in Tondo, Manila ignored social distancing measures while claiming relief goods that the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) was distributing for the birthday of its chief, Police Major General Debold Sinas, on Friday.

Barangay 105 residents crammed as they fell in line under the scorching sun before 11 a.m. to receive rice and sardines distributed by some Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel, according to a 24 Oras report by Chino Gaston.

However, authorities were not able to handle the people in Tondo, a barangay leading with active COVID-19 cases in Manila.

Even residents from other barangays fell in line for the aid. However, many went home disappointed due to the limited number of goods.

"Kahit sa distribution ng SAP pati ng mga relief good, magkakaroon talaga minsan na dahil kagustuhan na maka-avail ng mga benefits o relief goods nava-violate ang social distancing," Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said.

"We'll remind not just the police but also all concerned na we should observe physical distancing at all times," Eleazar added. -Jamil Santos/MDM, GMA News
