Enrollment for students in public schools to proceed on June 1 -Palace

The month-long enrollment period for students in public schools will proceed on June 1, Malacañang said Wednesday.

“Tuloy po iyan dahil hindi naman po tayo pupuwede na walang preparasyon,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a radio interview.

Under the memorandum issued by Education Secretary Leonor Briones on May 11, schools must conduct enrollment from June 1 to 30 for all learners intending to attend the school year 2020-2021, including those who signed up during the early registration period.

The upcoming school year will start on August 24, 2020 and will end on April 30, 2021.

On Monday night, President Rodrigo Duterte said he would not allow the opening of classes until a vaccine against COVID-19 was made locally available. Roque later clarified that traditional face-to-face classes would not resume as long as community quarantines remain in place.

“Formal learning will resume, possibly not face-to-face, but definitely blended,” the Palace official said in a separate interview on ANC.

Roque also maintained that the Department of Education may tap the internet, television, and radio to ensure delivery of lessons.

“This is a bold move on the part of the Department of Education. We have not really done this on this scale but we have to adapt to the times,” he said. —AOL, GMA News
