Philippines' COVID-19 cases exceed 28,000 with 661 new infections


The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country surpassed 28,000 on Friday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 661 more infections, of which 460 are "fresh" or newly validated and 201 are late, bringing the total to 28,459

Meanwhile, total recoveries rose to 7,378 with 288 new ones while 14 more fatalities brought the death toll to 1,130.

According to the DOH, of the newly reported deaths, 12 happened from June 4 to June 14. One duplicate case was also removed from the total case count.

Among the fresh cases, 277 are from the National Capital Region, 21 are from Region VII, and 162 are from other areas across the country.

Among the late cases, 40 are from the National Capital Region, 103 are from Region VII, and 58 are from other areas across the country. 

There are also 19,593 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine. Among these, 19,053 are mild, 460 are asymptomatic, 61 are severe, and 19 are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, at present, the Philippines has 46 certified polymerase chain reaction facilities and 16 GeneXpert laboratories. -MDM, GMA News
