Philippine COVID-19 cases top 30,000 with 653 new infections

The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines breached the 30,000 mark on Sunday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 653 more infections—415 “fresh” or newly validated and 238 reported late—bringing the total to 30,052.

Total recoveries also rose to 7,893 after 243 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness, while the death toll climbed to 1,169 with 19 new fatalities.

“Today's fresh cases are based on the daily accomplishment reports submitted by only 45 out of 59 current operational labs,” the DOH said, adding that one duplicate case previously reported was removed from the total tally of infections.

The department also said that 15 of 19 new deaths occurred between June 3 and 16.

Among the fresh cases, 219 are from Metro Manila, 89 are from Region VII, while the remaining 107 were spread out across the country.

Among the late cases, 32 were from Metro Manila, 177 are from Region VII, while the 29 other patients came from various areas nationwide.

As of June 19, the Philippines had 62 certified polymerase chain reaction laboratories that have tested a total of 534,106 individuals. — DVM, GMA News
