Education Secretary Leonor Briones ordered the temporary closure to ensure the health and safety of the department's skeleton workforce, the department's advisory said.

The temporary closure will take up two official working days as August 21, Friday, is a national non-working holiday in commemoration of the assassination of former senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.

DepEd said all its personnel in the central office will be on a work-from-home arrangement and will continue providing services and performing critical operations without any interruptions.

"Financial obligations, salaries and benefits of all DepEd teaching and non-teaching personnel are already being processed, and shall be promptly paid," the DepEd said.

"Virtual productivity tools will be consistently utilized for official and work-related matters," it added. —KBK, GMA News
