DOJ Usec. Perete resigns over 'serious, personal' reasons
Department of Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete on Thursday said he has resigned from his post effective immediately.
Perete, who is also the department's spokesperson, cited personal and serious reasons for his resignation, which is effective Thursday.
“After much thought, I have decided to submit my resignation from the DOJ effective today due to serious reasons,” he said in a message to reporters.
“My reason are very personal and I humbly request for everyone's understanding. Thank you,” he added.
Perete said he has yet to Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra about his resignation.
“Not yet. As I said, this decision and the reason for it are very personal. I would have liked to continue under Secretary Guevarra's leadership but it would be a disservice to do so at this time,” he said.
Appointed DOJ spokesperson by Guevarra in November 2018, Perete graduated from UP College of Law in 2006.
Before his stint with the DOJ, Perete was technical assistant at the Office of the President with the rank of assistant secretary for the legal affairs. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
