Death toll due to Quinta now at 16 -NDRRMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday said the number of deaths related to Typhoon Quinta has climbed to 16.

NDRRMC situation report showed that the fatalities came from Regions V, VI, VII, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA. A total of 22 individuals were injured while four are still missing.

The fatalities include two women from CALABARZON who both died due to fallen trees; seven were from MIMAROPA wherein four died of drowning and three others died due to fallen trees; five males from Bicol region; and two drowning victims from Region VII.

A total of 57,742 families or 242,220 persons from Regions III, VI, VIII, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA have been affected in which 16,830 families or 65,579 individuals are being assisted in various evacuation centers, NDRRMC said.

It also said the electricity in 61 out of the 213 affected municipalities in Regions V, VI, VIII, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA have been restored.

Meanwhile, a total of 29 road sections and five bridges remain impassable in Regions II, III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, V, VIII, and Cordillera Administrative Region.

The cost of damages in Regions I, III, V, VI, CALABARZON and MIMAROPA following the typhoon has increased to P737,129,545. These include damages to agriculture and infrastructure.

In MIMAROPA alone, two schools, one health facility, one government facility, 11 public structures, and three places of worship have been destroyed, the NDRRMC noted.

A total of 29,528 houses from various regions were  also damaged due to the onslaught of Quinta.

A total of P1,236,586 worth of assistance has already been extended by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, local government units, and non-government organizations to the affected families.—AOL, GMA News
