Nearly 2,000 passengers, workers stranded in ports due to Rolly — PCG


The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Sunday said 1,960 passengers and workers are stranded in ports in different parts of the country due to the onslaught of Typhoon Rolly.

In a statement, the PCG said those stranded were passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers from the Bicol Region, Southern Tagalog, National Capital Region, and Eastern Visayas.

Aside from them, the PCG also recorded 83 vessels, 119 motorbancas,  and 846 rolling cargoes that were stranded in different ports.

“A total of 196 vessels and 45 motorbancas are also taking shelter in said regions as a precautionary measure against possible threats of the tropical storm,” the PCG said.

“The PCG Command Center is on 24/7 monitoring to strictly implement guidelines on the movement of vessels during heavy weather,” it added.

In the Bicol Region, the Coast Guard said sea conditions were extremely rough with zero visibility, strong winds, and heavy rains. At least 1,013 passengers, drivers, and helpers, as well as three vessels, two motorbancas, and 443 rolling cargoes were stranded.

The PCG is monitoring the ports of Pioduran, Legazpi, Bacacay, Rapu-Rapu,Tabaco, Pasacao, Masbate, San Jacinto, San Pascual, Cataingan, Aroroy, Matnog, and Pilar.

At least 55 vessels and motorbancas were staying in the region for the meantime in light of the threat of Rolly.

In Southern Tagalog, moderate sea condition is being experienced with rain showers, according to PCG.

Some 142 passengers, drivers, and helpers as well as two vessels, seven motorbancas and 214 rolling cargoes were stranded.

The PCG is monitoring the ports of Batangas, Calapan, Lucena, Balanacan, Romblon, Carme, Looc, Sta. Fe, Cajidiocan, Ambulong, and Real.

At least 136 vessels and 41 motorbancas were taking shelter in the ports in the region.             

In the National Capital Region, moderate sea conditions were also being experienced.

Due to this, 183 passengers, drivers, and helpers as well as three vessels, 110 motorbancas, and eight rolling cargoes were also stranded in Metro Manila ports.

The PCG is monitoring ports of North Port Passenger Terminal, Pritil Wharf, Talim Island, and Cardona Fishport.

Meanwhile in Eastern Visayas, moderate sea conditions were being experienced with light winds and rain showers.

At least 622 passengers, drivers, and helpers as well as 75 vessels and  181 rolling cargoes were stranded in the region.

The PCG is monitoring the Port of Sta. Clara, Port of Balwartico, and Port of Dapdap.

Five vessels were temporarily staying in the region amid the onslaught of Rolly, according to the PCG.

“Coast Guard Districts, Stations, and Sub-Stations across the country were on standby to respond on emergency situations, in coordination with local government units and disaster response teams,” it said. — RSJ, GMA News
