VACCINE ‘SIMILAR TO PFIZER'S’

Lacson, Romualdez were vaccinated for COVID-19 –Sen. Sotto

Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Saturday said that a senator and a congressman had been injected with a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine and that they were immune to the illness.

According to Sotto, Senator Panfilo Lacson and House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez had been inoculated with a vaccine "parang pareho sa Pfizer," which only recently concluded its late-stage trials.

“Si Senator Lacson, ang tapang. Immunized na ‘yun, nagpa-injection na ‘yun. Nauna na siya, sila ni Martin Romualdez… parang pareho sa Pfizer,” Sotto said in a radio interview.

Sotto said that others have already taken the vaccine. However, he did not specify if these were only Lacson and Romualdez or also other individuals.

“Meron na pero ‘yung iba kasi matatapang na nagpapauna. Ang biruan nga namin ni Senator Lacson, sabi niya partner pa-immunize ka na. Sabi ko teka muna titignan muna kita 'pag nitong Pasko, nakikilala mo pa ako. Baka mamaya pagdating ng isang araw sabihin sa akin, who are you?” he said.

Sotto said that the 72-year-old Lacson told him he felt as if he was 30 years old after taking the vaccine.

“Wala, he feels daw like he is 30 years old. Tapos bihira na nga mag-mask, eh. Dati makikita mo ‘yun naka-mask, naka-face shield. Immunized na siya,” Sotto said.

Pfizer earlier said that the efficacy of the vaccine was consistent across age and ethnicity demographics and that there were no major side effects, a sign that the immunization could be employed broadly around the world.

US Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar previously said the vaccine from Pfizer could be ready for US authorization and distribution within weeks.
