Over 4 million people affected by Ulysses —NDRRMC


The number of affected residents due to the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses already reached 4 million, according to a report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

In its report on Monday, the NDRRMC said that a total of 4,079,739 people or 995,476 families were affected in 6,644 barangays nationwide.

The victims were recorded from the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, National Capital Region, and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Of the total number, 139,443 people or 34,232 families were staying in 670 evacuation centers, while 83,739 people or 19,296 families took shelter in other places.

At least 73 were reported dead and 69 were injured, the NDRRMC said. Nineteen people are still missing.

On Sunday, Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesperson Major General  Edgard Arevalo said that its  Northern, and Southern Luzon Commands have carried on with their search and rescue operations.

Over P8.69 billion worth of damage in infrastructure and P4.21 billion in agriculture were recorded due to the impact of the typhoon.

A total of 98,285 houses were also damaged. Of which, 10,524 homes were totally damaged and 87,761 were partially damaged.

According to NDRRMC, P131,066,121 worth of assistance was provided to affected families, coming from the government, private partners, and non-government organizations. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
