Christmas parties banned in PNP, Sinas says

Philippine National Police chief Police General Debold Sinas on Wednesday said Christmas parties are not allowed within the police force as the national government discourages celebrations during the holidays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 81st founding anniversary of the Quezon City Police District, Sinas said people attending the Misa De Gallo, including those in Camp Crame, should be controlled.

"The policy of the government is wala, mayroon na po kaming inilabas na direktiba na walang Christmas party. In fact sabi ko nga, 'yung Misa De Gallo dapat controlled din," Sinas said.

"Kung gusto ng mga simbahan natin na nandoon sa Crame na mag-Misa De Gallo, control din at gamitan ng zoom. Kapag ang authorized 30%, 'yun lang dapat," he added.

Likewise, he reminded the public that caroling this Christmas season is prohibited.

He said there would be the traditional Christmas tree lighting in the PNP as well as gift-giving, however, he said there will be no large gatherings.

Sinas was the subject of the public's outrage due to his birthday celebration in May despite the strict enforcement of quarantine protocols in Metro Manila amid the health crisis.

Sinas and other police officers were slapped with criminal raps due to this incident.

President Rodrigo Duterte has since defended Sinas over the incident. —LBG, GMA News
