New COVID cases surge to over 100% in several provinces

New COVID-19 cases in 15 provinces in the country have more than doubled with Eastern Samar on top with over 800% increase.

Cedric Castillo on “Balitanghali” cited data from GMA News Research Team showing that as of December 1st, 15 provinces recorded case spikes of over 100%.

Meanwhile, 62 more provinces have recorded increases in the number of cases.

The Department of Health attributed the rise in COVID cases a number factors, including increase in mass testing conducted by LGUs, infections from those returning to provinces, and the relaxation of health protocols.

Thus, the National Task Force Against COVID-19 has reminded the public not to fall to complacency, and follow the minimum health protocols during the holidays.

“When we lifted the restrictions, talagang ‘yong movement po ng tao at tsaka nakita natin na we have to revisit ‘yong kanilang tinatawag na prevention strategy. We have seen na nagkaroon po ng sinasabi nating lapse sa kanilang mga protocols and there is a tendency talaga na nagkakaroon ng relaxation,” NTF chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said.

“May possibility po na magkakaroon tayo ng spike, particularly ngayon na nagpre-prepare tayo sa holidays, be careful at talagang i-minimuze po natin ang mga ceremonies at occasions,” he added.

As of Wednesday, the country recorded a total of 434,357 cases including 399,005 recoveries and 8,436 fatalities. —LBG, GMA News
